Child Restraints

Occupant restraints play a vital role in road safety with statistics showing that “seatbelts save lives”.

Until the commencement of the Road Safety Officer position Tumut Shire never had an authorised restraint fitting station. This meant that people who wished to have a child restraint fitted had to travel to Wagga Wagga. In 2002 Tumut Exhaust and Brake Centre was trained as an authorised restraint fitting station.

Since the implementation of the authorised restraint fitting station regular campaigns are conducted to raise community awareness of the importance of having child restraints fitted correctly. Information packs have been developed advertising the restraint fitting stations and the importance of correctly fitted restraints. This material has been distributed to child care centres, hospitals, preschools, and is available at the authorised restraint fitting stations.
