The Tumut Saleyards Committee is an advisory committee to Council on all aspects of Tumut Saleyards. A condition of the Saleyard Licence (issued by Safe Food Production NSW – Meat Branch) requires Council to comply with the Code of Practice for the Selling of Cattle and Bobby Calves in NSW Saleyards. Clause 4.15 of the Code requires Council to establish and maintain a Saleyards Advisory Committee.
The aims of the committee are to:
Council own the facilities and land on which the saleyards are located with the exception of the weigh bridge, weigh bridge building and two pens located at either end of the weigh bridge. These facilities were installed in the 1970’s by the then agents and subsequently purchased and now maintained by the Tumut Associated Agents.
Membership of the committee is not compulsory, but it should comprise at least representatives from local Stock and Station Agents, livestock carriers, livestock producer, buyer, Veterinarian, a Councillor and Tumut Shire Council Staff.
