The purpose of the Committee is to identify the needs of the Third Age community in Tumut Shire, and to facilitate the meeting of these needs. A third ager/senior citizen is a person 55 years of age or older.
Meetings are held on the 4th Thursday of February and July.
Objectives of the Committee
The aim of the Committee is to provide a forum for consultation between Council and the senior citizens of Tumut Shire to achieve –
Persons to be appointed to the Third Age Tumut Shire Committee by Tumut Shire Council. Persons can be self nominated, or can represent a group or organisation. The Committee was elected for a four year period running concurrently with the term of Council.
Non-members, observers and advisers to may attend meetings of the Committee to facilitate exchange of information and to provide specialist advice and counsel to the Committee.

Life Long Learners Group With abundant evidence showing the importance of remaining mentally active for healthy ageing, committee members of Tumut Shire’s “Third Age Committee” perceived the need for individuals no longer in the work force, to continue exploring and expanding learning areas, in a vibrant, stimulating yet relaxed environment. The Council organised two public meetings to enable individuals to show expressions of interest and discuss meeting times. With an enthusiastic response, the group commenced in 2005 with the aim of satisfying the desire of individuals to expand their current knowledge. More about the Life Long Learners group.
Seniors Week 2005 Tumut Shire Council held a number of activities during Seniors Week in 2005 which were held at the Montreal Theatre Tumut and the Tumut RSL.
Seniors Week 2006 Tumut Shire Council received Seniors Week funding to conduct activities and develop a program in conjunction with Gundagai and Tumbarumba shires. 2006 Seniors Week Program (1.65mb PDF)

Information Seminars The Social Community Plan 2005 -2010 identified the ageing population as a major issue for Tumut Shire Council to address. The Third Age Committee have organised information seminars to address action 4.2 in the Social Plan action 4.2 - Organise a series of information sessions on the implications of an ageing population.
A seminar on the Enduring Power of Attorney was held in March 2005, and another seminar on Financial Planning in Retirement was conducted in March 2007.
