Sustainability Projets

Council has undertaken a plethora of Sustainability initiatives over the last couple of years, from installing Solar Panels to undertaking Energy Audits in the Shire. 

Business Sustainability

Council has undertaken many different projects to ensure that we are validating our commitment to Council vision “To be an innovative, prosperous and welcoming community; seeking to live sustainably within its rural setting and natural environment” and to ensure that we meet our objective of the Sustainable Action Plan 2014-2018. These projects comprise of physical works, changes in management of our assets and behavioural changes in the organisation such installing Solar Panels, Solar heating of Pools, using Recycled Water, Energy Audit and Energy Usage Review. 
We have summarised below a list of the projects that Council has undertaken.

Solar Panels

Tumut Shire Council has the following Solar Panels installed on their facilities:
Riverina Highlands Building 30kW
Jarrah Oval 1.5kW
Tumut and District Historical Society 1.5kw
Batlow Historical Society 1.5kW

Council is in the process of installing Solar Panels at the following locations:
Adelong Pool 5kW
HACC 20-30kW
Library 15kW
Neighbourhood Centre 3kw

Future installation of Solar Panels:
Tumut Sewage Treatment Plant – 60kW
Adelong Sewage Treatment Plant 10kW
Batlow Sewage Treatment Plant 20kW
Talbingo Sewage Treatment Plant 10kW
Brungle Sewage Treatment Plant 5kW

Council has solar heating at the following locations:
Adelong Pool
Batlow Pool

Recycled Water

Council uses Recycled Water at the following Locations:
Tumut Golf Course
Jarrah Oval
Talbingo Country Club 
Batlow Golf Club

Energy Audits

Council has undertaken an energy audit at the following sites:

The Neighbourhood Centre
Tumut library
Tumut Sewage Treatment Plant
Adelong Sewage Treatment Plant
Batlow Sewage Treatment Plant
Talbingo Sewage Treatment Plant
Brungle Sewage Treatment Plant

Energy Usage Review

Council undertook an Energy Usage Review at all Council owned buildings in the Shire. This review involved the detailed analysis of past electricity consumption and the present energy purchasing arrangements and network tariff designation for 77 sites operated by Council.
