Sharps Disposal

Contaminated sharps discarded inappropriately can pose a serious public health risk which is why Tumut Shire Council ensures that appropriate facilities exist to dispose of used sharps for residents and guests to the area. Hospitals and Community Health Centres will accept used sharps.

Outdoor Snowy Works and Services personnel have had adequate training in how to deal with discarded sharps in places like parks and gardens should an event where one is discovered occurs, thus eliminating the risk of needle stick injury to other workers, contractors and members of the public. Council's ‘Public Health Plan’ is a document that was created to identify public health issues in the Shire, how to minimise any potential risks associated with the issues identified and ways of measuring the success of risk minimisation strategies.
