Roadside Grazing, Livestock & Sale Yards

Livestock

Tumut Shire council is dedicated to encouraging secure and adequate fencing to ensure the safe keeping of livestock and safety on our roads. If any livestock are observed wandering on our roadways these incidents can be reported to the Council Ranger on (02) 6941 2547. Livestock wandering on roads is a severe traffic hazard which council will respond to immediately. The stock owner is responsible for their stock at all times and is liable for any damages or injury that may occur as a result of their livestock being involved in an accident.

Council currently has a procedure in place where, if Council staff is called out after hours to deal with stock on road, the owner will receive an invoice for the cost of time and mileage for the call out.  If repeat offences occur, the in addition to the invoice for time and mileage, the owner will receive fines for allowing animals to walk freely on the roads.  These fines can be up to $300 per animal.

Further information about livestock can be obtained from the Riverina Local Land Services at 87 Sheridan St Gundagai NSW. Contact: 02 6944 1588 or www.riverina.lls.nsw.gov.au
