Description: What does 'community facilities' measure?
Which data are collected?
- number and types of community facilities per '000 population
Why do we report this indicator?
A range of public and private assets are generally made available to the community for cultural and community activities. The number and diversity of these facilities indicate the willingness of society to invest in developing a sense of community, thereby improving the overall quality of life.
The different types of community and cultural facilities that could be provided include, sportsgrounds, indoor and outdoor sportscentres, swimming pools, skateparks, playgrounds and parks, libraries, theatres, cinemas, museums, galleries, halls and other built facilities. Major community assets, such as education infrastructure and urban green space (e.g. bushland), are considered in relation to other indicators.
