Description: What does 'saftey responses' measure?

Which data are collected?
  • systems, programs and legislation in place to minimise risk from crimes against people and property, fire, road and other accidents
Why do we report this indicator?

Designing communities to build-in attributes of safety has become a feature of modern community planning. A number of programs (including education) exist at both the community and government levels to improve people's safety, and their perception of safety. Making these available and implementing them will improve both, increasing access to public areas and services.

The extent and types of programs is an indicator of the community's response to the problems and perception of pressures to life and property, and the social and economic cost this entails. It is an indicator of how seriously we want to protect our quality of life.
