About the data

Information was provided by Tumut Shire Council.

Description: What does 'site remediation' measure?

Which data are collected?
  • number and proportion of contaminated sites remediated
  • area and proportion of contaminated sites that are well managed according to contaminated sites management frameworks
Why do we report this indicator?

Some form of clean-up is often needed to allow an area of land to be used after it has been contaminated with toxic materials such as mine tailings, hazardous waste, or sheep dip residues. This is known as remediation.

The progress made on remediating contaminated sites indicates the response by society towards improving the quality of our ecosystems and human health.

All contaminated sites should also be managed according to contaminated sites management frameworks. Managing such sites properly indicates another response to managing and improving land quality.
